Basketball Recap: Concord Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Concord entered their tilt with Springport on Thursday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Springport Spartans by a score of 67-54. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Spartans are ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Concord's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Thorrez, who went 7-for-13 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Thorrez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cieara Barrett, who posted 18 points and six assists.

Concord was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They racked up six more assists than Springport's also-impressive total of ten.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reese Siefert, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 15 points and eight boards. Springport is 2-1 when Siefert posts 15 or more points, but 6-7 otherwise. Chloey Speer was another key player, putting up 12 points and six assists.

Concord's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Springport, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Concord will challenge Union City at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. As for Springport, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-46 loss against Bronson on the 17th.
