Volleyball Game Preview: Kennebunk Rams vs. Thornton Academy Trojans

Kennebunk hasn't had much luck against Thornton Academy recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 11:30 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Kennebunk is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Biddeford, who was ranked 17th at the time (Kennebunk was ranked eighth). The Rams took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers on Monday.

While Kennebunk ultimately came up short, they really made Biddeford work, particularly in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20.

Meanwhile, Thornton Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Scarborough on Monday and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Red Storm: they've now lost nine in a row.

Thornton Academy actually scored more points across those five sets (105-104), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Thornton Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Kennebunk, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Kennebunk couldn't quite get it done against Thornton Academy when the teams last played last Thursday as they fell 3-1. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
