Football Recap: Pembroke Pines Charter Takes a Loss

After flying high against Varsity Opponent last Thursday, Pembroke Pines Charter came back down to earth. The Jaguars and the Nova Titans were almost perfectly matched up on Wednesday, but the Jaguars suffered a 19-18 loss. The Jaguars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Ava Rivera and Madison Ojeda certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Rivera threw for 203 yards and three TDs, while Ojeda picked up 87 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Pembroke Pines Charter didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ojeda.

Dezrihana Medina had another great game (as she tends to do), rushing for 137 yards and one score on only nine carries, while also throwing for 180 yards and one TD while completing 72% of her passes for Nova. Medina's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total. A healthy portion of Medina's aerial production (90 yards to be exact) went to Loursenie Pascal.

Pembroke Pines Charter's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Nova, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pembroke Pines Charter will take on rival South Plantation at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Jaguars 7.5, the Paladins 12.6) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Nova is set to challenge their familiar foe Cooper City at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
