Basketball Recap: Holdenville Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Holdenville Wolverines ended up a good deal behind the Kingston Redskins and lost 55-40. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Redskins are ranked 45th).

When it comes to explaining why Holdenville lost, don't look at Dah'Myah Olden. Despite the final result, she went 8 for 14 to rack up 18 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 45% of Holdenville's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Bella Smith was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Holdenville and nudges their season record down to 12-8. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.5% in those games and 24.3% outside of them. As for Kingston, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holdenville will challenge Wewoka at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kingston, they will square off against Dickson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kingston is facing Dickson at the right time seeing as Dickson is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
