Baseball Recap: Clinton Takes a Loss

Delavan-Darien hit Clinton with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-4. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Gavin Wesling was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Wesling wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Guestchow, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Logan Hendricks also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Clinton dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Delavan-Darien, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.

Looking ahead, Clinton will challenge Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Delavan-Darien, they will take on Whitewater at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
