Softball Recap: York's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After flying high against Camden last Thursday, York came back down to earth. The York Cougars fell just short of the A.C. Flora Falcons by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since May 13, 2024.

Layla Clayton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, York saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Johnson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

York moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for A.C. Flora, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: A.C. Flora beat York by a score of 6-5 on Thursday.
