Basketball Recap: Jayden Jeffery's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sun Valley over Weddington

After flying high against Gray Stone Day last Wednesday, Sun Valley came back down to earth. The Sun Valley Spartans lost to the Weddington Warriors at home by a 60-42 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Warriors are ranked 58th).

Sun Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Jeffery, who posted six points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Jeffery a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Thanasi Papazis, who scored seven points.

Weddington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was KJ Younger, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Younger is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 18 games he's played dating back to last season. Jake Ford was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Sun Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Weddington, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Sun Valley will head out on the road to square off against Marvin Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marvin Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season. As for Weddington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-52 defeat against Carmel Christian on the 18th.
