Softball Recap: Troy's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Troy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They never let the Clifton Cubs get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 last Tuesday.

Isabella Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jae Jae Phillips, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Melanie Zapata was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Troy's win bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Clifton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Troy and Clifton will both be playing McGregor the next time they take the field. Clifton will head out to face McGregor at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Troy will host them at 7:00 p.m. on April 8.
