Preview: Valor Preparatory Academy Owls vs. Carolina International Comets
The Valor Preparatory Academy Owls will head out on the road to take on the Carolina International Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Valor Preparatory Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Tuesday, Valor Preparatory Academy had to suffer through a rough 64-23 loss at the hands of Lee Park Prep. While losing is never fun, Valor Preparatory Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 613th, while Lee Park Prep is ranked 268th).
Despite their defeat, Valor Preparatory Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jalia Borden, who scored ten points along with seven steals and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 43.5% of Valor Preparatory Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ameera Clark, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Carolina International brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They put the hurt on Queen's Grant with a sharp 55-35 victory on Thursday. Carolina International's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Valor Preparatory Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Carolina International, their win ended a 21-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-12.
Everything went Valor Preparatory Academy's way against Carolina International when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as Valor Preparatory Academy made off with a 40-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valor Preparatory Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
