Baseball Recap: Unioto Beats Zane Trace for Their Eighth Straight Win

Unioto came tearing into Thursday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Zane Trace Pioneers by a score of 6-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-1 back in April.

KB Perkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Zickafoose, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Caden Speakman, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Unioto's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Zane Trace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-5.

Looking ahead, Unioto will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lynchburg-Clay at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Shermans 2.5, the Mustangs 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Zane Trace, they will head out on the road to take on Athens at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
