Basketball Recap: Classical Comes Up Short

Classical lost against Westerly back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Classical Purple took a blow against the Westerly Bulldogs, falling 72-23. The Purple's loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Westerly was led to victory by Kate Rafferty and Ella Reyes. Rafferty almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals, while Reyes went 5 for 10 on her way to 15 points along with five boards and four steals. Reyes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Nova Woodward was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 13 points.

Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Westerly, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Classical will square off against South Kingstown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Classical is facing South Kingstown at the right time seeing as South Kingstown is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Westerly, they will challenge East Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westerly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
