Preview: Morrow Mustangs vs. Jonesboro Cardinals
Morrow is 0-5 against the Cardinals since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Morrow Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jonesboro Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Morrow was able to grind out a solid win over the Bulldogs, taking the game 65-52. The win was just what Morrow needed coming off of a 88-41 loss in their prior matchup.
Morrow's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kentavious Bentley, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Bentley also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Pena, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Jonesboro over the Panthers in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Jonesboro blew the Panthers out of the water with a 62-19 final score. With Jonesboro ahead 38-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.
It was another big night for Montez Redding, who scored 28 points. Cortez Redding was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine assists and six rebounds.
Morrow is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Jonesboro, they pushed their record up to 15-9 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Morrow hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.2 points per game. However, it's not like Jonesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 62.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Morrow took a serious blow against the Cardinals in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 75-34. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Morrow was down 40-16.
