Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Prep Eagles vs. Catholic Memorial Knights

The St. John's Prep Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Catholic Memorial Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. John's Prep is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

St. John's Prep came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Cambridge Rindge & Latin by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Catholic Memorial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Malden Catholic by a score of 7-2.

Spencer Hern looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Catholic Memorial let Carson McCarthy and Daniel Colon run wild. McCarthy went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Colon went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave McCarthy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Richie Curran, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Catholic Memorial's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. John's Prep, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
