Basketball Recap: Laurence Manning Academy Takes a Loss

Laurence Manning Academy and Northside Christian Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Laurence Manning Academy had to settle for second. They were dealt a 74-41 defeat at the hands of the Northside Christian Academy Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Swampcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Crusaders are ranked 39th).

Northside Christian Academy was led to victory by Campbell Childers and Evie Godfrey. Childers posted 23 points and five assists, while Godfrey earned 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Godfrey is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chaelyn Tifre, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Laurence Manning Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. As for Northside Christian Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-2.

Laurence Manning Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northside Christian Academy, they will face off against Northwood Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Maliyah Birch and Godfrey.
