Millard North is 8-2 against Papillion-LaVista South since December of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Millard North Mustangs will square off against the Papillion-LaVista South Titans at 1:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Millard North sitting on three straight wins and Papillion-LaVista South on 14.
Millard North is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They took down Bellevue West 62-44.
Millard North's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amari Rahaman, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 14 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Rollins, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
Rahaman wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Millard North was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellevue West only six assists.
Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista South didn't have too much trouble with Papillion-LaVista on Wednesday as they won 76-58. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Monarchs are ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Papillion-LaVista South's win came from a few key players Millard North will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bryson Bahl, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 23 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. Those five blocks gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Levi Webb, who shot 78% from the field en route to 16 points and seven boards.
Millard North's record now sits at 19-6. As for Papillion-LaVista South, their record is now 24-3.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Rollins and Bahl. Rollins has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 19.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks on 53.9% shooting. For his part, Bahl has averaged 21.4 points, 1.8 steals, and 1 blocks on 51.7% shooting.
Millard North might still be hurting after the 62-42 defeat they got from Papillion-LaVista South in their previous meeting back in February. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bahl, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 25 points and 13 boards. Now that Millard North knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
