Basketball Recap: Dajuan Gibson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Scotland over Purnell Swett

Scotland was the 56-38 winner over Purnell Swett when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Scotland Fighting Scots lost to the Purnell Swett Rams on the road by a 72-55 margin on Monday.

Scotland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dajuan Gibson, who went 8 for 19 en route to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Gibson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Shylan Harrell was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Scotland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 36 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Leading Purnell Swett to victory were Collin Sampson and Jeremiah Barnes. Sampson went 8 for 16 en route to 22 points, while Barnes went 5 of 9 on his way to 17 points and four steals. Those four steals gave Barnes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aidan Clewis, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Scotland dropped their record down to 4-13 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Purnell Swett, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-14.
