Softball Game Preview: Lumberton Pirates vs. Whiteville Wolfpack

Lumberton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Whiteville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Lumberton Pirates will welcome the Whiteville Wolfpack at 5:00 p.m. Lumberton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Lumberton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Douglas Byrd with a sharp 21-0 win. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Norah Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jaelyn Hammond was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Jayla Hunt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lumberton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Whiteville didn't have quite enough to beat Heide Trask on Tuesday and fell 6-4.

Whiteville's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Lumberton, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Lumberton took their victory against Whiteville in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2. Will Lumberton repeat their success, or does Whiteville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
