Baseball Game Preview: Ledyard Colonels vs. Putnam Clippers

The Ledyard Colonels will face off against the Putnam Clippers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Ledyard made up a huge gap compared to their last game against New London, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Colonels fell just short of the Whalers by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The Colonels have struggled against the Whalers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Jack Leaf made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Ashton Wuestner was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Putnam was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They came up short against Windham, falling 16-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Clippers have suffered against the Whippets since April 2, 2022.

Nick Devlin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ben Gustafson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Putnam's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Ledyard, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Ledyard was able to grind out a solid win over Putnam in their previous meeting on Monday, winning 6-1. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Clippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
