Basketball Recap: Genesee's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Genesee won the last time they faced New Standard Academy, and Averie Zinn did her part to make sure it happened again. The Genesee Wolves walked away with a 70-62 victory over the New Standard Academy Spartans on Friday for which the team can thank Zinn, who posted 34 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That makes it 22 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Genesee's points.

Another player making a difference was Autumn Simpson, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 15 boards. Genesee is 14-4 when Simpson posts eight or more rebounds, but 2-4 otherwise.

The win made it two in a row for Genesee and bumps their season record up to 16-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.5 points over those games. As for New Standard Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8.

Coming up, Genesee will square off against Millington at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Millington will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Genesee surely won't give up without a fight. New Standard Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
