Softball Recap: Kirbyville Extends Winning Streak to Four

Kirbyville entered their tilt with East Chambers on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Buccaneers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-0 back in March.

Calli Wiggins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jules Carrell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Wilkes, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Kirbyville pushed their record up to 22-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Chambers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-12-1 record this season.

Kirbyville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-0 victory against Hardin on the 15th. As for East Chambers, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-5 loss against Kountze on the 15th.
