Recap: Oasis Academy Bighorns vs. Sierra Lutheran Falcons
The Oasis Academy Bighorns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 44-36 to Sierra Lutheran. Oasis Academy has not had much luck with Sierra Lutheran recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Oasis Academy had strong showings from Grace Laca, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Taylynn Maynez, who scored 12 points along with three steals. That was a full 36.1% of Oasis Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lakota Casey was another key contributor, scoring three points along with two steals.
Samantha Steyn was her usual excellent self, scoring eight points along with nine steals and six assists for Sierra Lutheran. Steyn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rezsia Berger, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Oasis Academy bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.2 points per game. As for Sierra Lutheran, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4.
Oasis Academy will head out on the road to face off against Yerington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Yerington has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 193 points over their last three matchups. As for Sierra Lutheran, Sierra Lutheran and Pershing County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pershing County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sierra Lutheran in Nevada (Pershing County is ranked 18th, while Sierra Lutheran is ranked 68th).
