Basketball Game Preview: Millard South Patriots vs. Elkhorn South Storm

The Millard South Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Elkhorn South Storm at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Millard South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Northwest, who was ranked sixth in their home state at the time (Millard South was ranked 25th). Millard South came up short against Northwest on Thursday, falling 66-42. The Patriots were down 53-28 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Millard South had strong showings from Macey Kuchta, who posted ten points, and Abbi Durow, who had 11 points. Kuchta continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Haley Kress also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn South can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Buena Vista 83-28. The contest marked the Storm's most dominant win of the season.

Millard South's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Elkhorn South, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-12.

Everything came up roses for Millard South against Elkhorn South when the teams last played back in January of 2022, as the squad secured a 67-34 win. In that game, Millard South amassed a halftime lead of 38-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
