Softball Recap: Cocoa Comes Up Short

Cocoa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-8. They came up short against the Merritt Island Christian Cougars, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in February.

Cocoa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ember Gold, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Natalie Bari was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

As for Merritt Island Christian, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

On Merritt Island Christian's side, Sophia Robison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sarah Robison, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Morrison, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Cocoa will be playing in front of their home fans against Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vipers have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
