Basketball Recap: Hiram Comes Up Short

Hiram lost against St. Andrew back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Hiram Hornets opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-43 loss to the St. Andrew's Lions. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Lions are ranked 73rd).

Zayden Edwards was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine assists for St. Andrew's. The match was Edwards' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Amari Cook was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Hiram has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for St. Andrew's, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Hiram will head out to face off against Cass at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Andrew's, they will be playing at home against New Hampstead at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
