Elba couldn't quite beat McKenzie on Friday, but the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 27-point defeat they were dealt last Friday. The Elba Tigers fell just short of the McKenzie Tigers by a score of 80-78. Elba was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McKenzie apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Elba lost, don't look at Alvin Henderson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 446 yards and nine touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Henderson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his 17th straight game with at least 165 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Elba wouldn't let McKenzie keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Elba can thank Mateo Jimenez and Cayden Adkins for forcing both of them.

Even though they lost, Elba was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 563 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted was before the start of last season.

Quay Jackson went supernova for McKenzie, throwing for 345 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Skylar Sanders was Jackson's top target, picking up 180 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Elba now has a losing record at 1-2. As for McKenzie, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Elba's homestand will continue as they prepare to take on Kinston on Friday. As for McKenzie, they will host Georgiana on Friday. McKenzie has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 163 points over their last three matchups.
