Baseball Game Preview: Marin Catholic Wildcats vs. San Marin Mustangs

Marin Catholic and San Marin are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Marin Catholic took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Novato, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hornets 2-0. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won three contests in a row.

Novato's batters probably weren't too happy with Cooper Mitchell, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up two walks). Mitchell also allowed no hits, which is notable because Marin Catholic is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 10-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Marin Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wade Untermann, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, San Marin came up short against Tamalpais on Thursday and fell 7-2.

Marin Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for San Marin, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-9.

Marin Catholic couldn't quite get it done against San Marin when the teams last played back in March as they fell 4-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
