Basketball Recap: Sweetwater Takes a Loss

Sweetwater lost against Tellico Plains back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sweetwater Wildcats lost 82-60 to the Tellico Plains Bears. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Bears are ranked 47th).

Despite the loss, Sweetwater saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hunter Daffron posted 25 points and seven boards. Those 25 points gave Daffron a new career-high. Brayden Dowell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Sweetwater has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Tellico Plains, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-2.

We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. Sweetwater is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. As for Tellico Plains, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Loudon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tellico Plains knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 23 matches -- so hopefully Loudon likes a good challenge.
