Basketball Game Preview: Altha Wildcats vs. Maclay Marauders

Altha hasn't had much luck against Maclay recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Altha Wildcats will challenge the Maclay Marauders at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Altha took on St. John Paul II last Tuesday. Altha walked away with a 45-37 victory over St. John Paul II. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maclay, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They strolled past FAMU DRS with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 49-34. The win was some much needed relief for the Marauders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Altha better keep an eye on Lauren Guyer. She was instrumental in Maclay's win, putting up 23 points and six steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Guyer has scored at least a third of Maclay's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Journey Kramer, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Altha is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.2 points per game. As for Maclay, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Altha might still be hurting after the 45-19 defeat they got from Maclay when the teams last played back in December of 2024.
