Softball Game Preview: Williamstown Yellowjackets vs. Oak Glen Golden Bears

The Williamstown Yellowjackets will take on the Oak Glen Golden Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Williamstown has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Oak Glen will arrive with four straight wins.

Friday just wasn't the day for Williamstown's offense. They lost 10-0 to Ontario on Friday.

Meanwhile, Oak Glen got the win against Edison on Friday by a conclusive 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Mattie Carney was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Oak Glen got a big performance out of Riley Bruce, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Bruce brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Danica Holden, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Oak Glen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Oak Glen's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Williamstown, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
