Softball Game Preview: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. McEwen Warriors

Houston County is 2-8 against McEwen since April of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors. Houston County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Houston County's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Wayne County.

Not much got past Brilee Anderson, who gave up just a hit to keep Wayne County off the board. Anderson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Addie Horn and Ally Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Horn went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Mitchell went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Brooks, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, McEwen won against Houston County on Thursday with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Warriors didn't even let Collinwood on the board, marking the Warriors' second-straight 4-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won four contests in a row.

Houston County's record now sits at 15-10. As for McEwen, their record is now 29-8-2.

Houston County couldn't quite get it done against McEwen when the teams last played on Thursday as they fell 4-0. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
