Softball Recap: Hesston Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hesston came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Larned Indians. The result was nothing new for the Swathers, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brenlyn Richmond was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Hesston let Wendy Roth and Kaylee Harris run wild. Roth scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Harris scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Raegan Eilert, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Hesston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Hesston pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Larned, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Hesston will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Nickerson at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Larned, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 6-1 win against Smoky Valley on the 15th.
