Softball Game Preview: East Greenwich Avengers vs. South Kingstown Rebels

The East Greenwich Avengers will head out on the road to square off against the South Kingstown Rebels at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. East Greenwich's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so South Kingstown's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

East Greenwich is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: East Providence, who was ranked 11th at the time (East Greenwich was ranked 15th). The Avengers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Townies 4-2.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, South Kingstown made sure to put some runs up on the board against North Providence on Wednesday. The Rebels' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cougars a 15-0 shutout. The contest marked the Rebels' most dominant victory of the season.

East Greenwich's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for South Kingstown, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9.

East Greenwich skirted past South Kingstown 1-0 in their previous meeting back in June of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Avengers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
