Bay Area Friday Night Blitz: Galileo QB nearly perfect again

The Galileo (San Francisco, Calif.) left-handed senior completed 17 of 18 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns as the visiting Lions defeated Lowell 57-30. Nelson now has a Bay Area-best 41 touchdown passes and he added 65 rushing yards and another score.

"He's been pretty unbelievable," Galileo coach Mark Huynh said. "I don't know how he scrambled out of those situations."

Isaac Armstrong caught two touchdown passes and Rodney Morgan caught one and returned an interception back 103 yards for another score as Galileo finished 10-1 overall and 7-0 in Academic Athletic Association play. Lowell finished 5-5 and 4-3.



In an odd twist on the final day of the AAA, the four playoff teams who will meet next week tangled on Friday.

In the other preview game, host Lincoln (San Francisco) defeated Mission 34-0 as Tyree Marzetta (13 carries, 181 yards) and Davion Telfor (12-142), each rushed for two touchdowns against Mission (5-5, 5-2), which had its five-game win streak snapped.

Lincoln gave up just 189 yards and nine first downs.

Lincoln hosts Mission and Lowell travels to Galileo in first-round playoff action on Thursday. The winners play for the championship on Thanksgiving at Kezar Stadium.

#25 Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) 10, Menlo (Atherton)

Riley Tinsley picked off a Will King pass to preserve the Valparaiso Bowl at Sequoia High School for SHP (9-1, 4-1), which got a game-winning 7-yard TD run by Chris Lee with 2:02 to play. … In a rematch of the Central Coast Section D4 title game from last season, Menlo played without injured quarterback Jack Heneghan, but gave SHP all it could handle. … SHP gained just 38 total yards in the first half and trailed 3-0 on a 29-yard field goal by Kevin Walker. … SHP tied it on a 25-yard field goal from Tinsley in the third quarter.



#7 St. Francis (Mountain View, Calif.) 42, Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) 13

Devin Hurtado rushed for 88 yards and two scores and Dennis Green and Landon Baty  each rushed for touchdowns for the host Lancers (7-3, 4-3). … Nick Mikovich caught a 20-yard TD pass from Logan White and Nico Dizon added a 56-yard touchdown run for SHC (2-8, 0-7).

Corey Olivet capped a superb game with a 43-yard interception return for touchdown as Los Gatos (7-3, 6-1) scored a 55-34 win over visiting and No. 14 Milpitas (8-2, 6-1). Olivet also caught two TD passes and rushed for a score. … #17 Wilcox (Santa Clara) (9-1, 6-1) finished in a three way tie with Milpitas and Los Gatos after a 47-20 win at Saratoga (3-7, 2-5).

North Coast Section playoffs

Nsimba Webster passed for three touchdowns and run for three more as host Deer Valley (Antioch) (10-1) overcame a slow start to post a 49-21 Division I first-round win over Castro Valley (4-7). … Jaylyn Morgan rushed for four TDs leading host Pittsburg (9-2) to a 47-13 win over Irvington-Fremont (5-6). … Tyler Offill completed a 20-yard TD pass to Josh Revay with 1:34 left leading host Granada (Livermore) (7-4) to a 24-21 win over Amador Valley-Pleasanton (5-6), which took the lead on a 55-yard TD run by Michael White five minutes earlier. … Eric Haynes rushed more than 200 yards and four touchdowns leading Northgate (Walnut Creek) to a 41-29 D2 win over visiting College Park-Pleasant Hill (6-4-1). … In D3 at De Anza-Richmond High, Adarius Pickett took back the opening kickoff for a touchdown and El Cerrito (9-2) let up at halftime in a 64-8 win over Tamalpais-Mill Valley (6-5) in a game that was scoreless in the second half.
