Softball Game Preview: Morton Indians vs. Sundown Roughnecks

The Morton Indians will challenge the Sundown Roughnecks at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Morton has given up an average of 15.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Morton fell victim to Crosbyton and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Chiefs, falling 16-0. The Indians just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Meanwhile, Sundown made easy work of Tahoka on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 victory. Considering the Roughnecks have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Destiny Garza spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sundown got a massive performance out of Nayleen Morin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brynly Gregory, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Sundown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Morton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Sundown, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
