Baseball Game Preview: Jac-Cen-Del Eagles vs. Southwestern Rebels

Jac-Cen-Del hasn't had much luck against Southwestern recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Jac-Cen-Del had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 23-run drubbing they dealt Crothersville on Monday. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 25-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Southwestern got the win against Switzerland County on Monday by a conclusive 7-1.

Tryson Warren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Varble, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Austin Jenkins also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Southwestern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Jac-Cen-Del suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Southwestern when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
