Basketball Recap: Cuyama Valley Takes a Loss

Cuyama Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 80-10 loss at the hands of the Valley Christian Academy Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-3 back in December of 2024.

Katelyn Mikkelson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Valley Christian Academy, almost dropping a triple-double on 21 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists. Those 21 points gave Mikkelson a new career-high. Elle Mason was another key player, going 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Cuyama Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Valley Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Cuyama Valley will challenge Coastal Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Valley Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-11 victory against Coast Union on the 21st.
