Preview: Potsdam Sandstoners vs. Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils
The Potsdam Sandstoners will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils at 7:15 p.m. The timing is sure in Potsdam's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Ogdensburg Free Academy has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
Potsdam scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Gouverneur at home to the tune of 85-52. Potsdam has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 24 points or more this season.
Potsdam found their leader in underclassman Ian VanWagner, who scored 40 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which VanWagner has scored at least a third of Potsdam's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Theo Hughes, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ogdensburg Free Academy came up short against Heuvelton Central on Tuesday and fell 65-54. While losing is never fun, Ogdensburg Free Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while Heuvelton Central is ranked 333rd).
Potsdam's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Ogdensburg Free Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Potsdam against Ogdensburg Free Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 76-46 win. Does Potsdam have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ogdensburg Free Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
