Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Halifax County

Halifax County lost to Gretna back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Halifax County Comets came out on top against the Gretna Hawks by a score of 60-53. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Comets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Hawks are ranked 30th).

Halifax County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Gretna, they moved to 8-1 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Halifax County will challenge George Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in George Washington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches. As for Gretna, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Gretna Hawks challenge the Prince Edward County Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
