Softball Game Preview: Carrollton Cavaliers vs. Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals

Carrollton is 0-10 against Michigan Lutheran Seminary since May of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Cavaliers will host the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Carrollton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Montrose on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cavaliers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Meanwhile, Michigan Lutheran Seminary entered their tilt with St. Charles on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Bulldogs.

Kerin Gardner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 11 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charli Alcorn, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Carrollton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-15.
