North Monterey County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 41-13 loss at the hands of the Palma Chieftains. The Condors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.

Despite the loss, North Monterey County still got an impressive performance from Jacob Silva, who picked up 145 receiving yards and two scores. Silva's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards.

North Monterey County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Edison Mellin and Leo Cruz.

Palma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Dukes, who rushed for 132 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Dukes is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. David Garcia was in the mix too, providing Palma with three touchdowns.

North Monterey County will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rancho San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Palma, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Hilmar at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
