Basketball Recap: Stephens Comes Up Short

Stephens had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it seven. They took a 60-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Christian River Hawks. The Roadrunners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the River Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

As for Valley Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Valley Christian to victory were Cole Rambo and David Brewer. Rambo dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Brewer posted 19 points and three steals. Brewer's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Levi Guthrie was another key player, putting up eight points and ten boards.

Stephens will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Legacy Academy at 7:15 p.m. on December 9. As for Valley Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Faulkner County HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The River Hawks will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
