Basketball Recap: Mahpiya Luta Takes a Loss

Mahpiya Luta and Winner squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Mahpiya Luta had to settle for second. They received a blow as they fell 72-55 to the Winner Warriors. The Crusaders have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meetings.

Winner found their leader in sophomore Carter Craven, who almost dropped a double-double with 37 points and nine boards. That's the most points Craven has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shawn Hammerbeck, who shot 83% from the field en route to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Mahpiya Luta's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Winner, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-5.

Mahpiya Luta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Winner, they will square off against Groton at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Groton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
