Softball Recap: Kennedy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Irvington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kennedy). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Irvington Vikings a 25-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that victory, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Madelyn Montague and Marilyn Rivas made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Montague pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rivas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Montague scored three runs while going 4-for-4, while Rivas got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Rivas has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kennedy got a massive performance out of Juliette Dekker, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave Dekker a new career-high. Hannah Cornell was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Kennedy and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Irvington, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-2 record.

Looking ahead, Kennedy will face off against Mission San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Irvington, they will venture away from home to face off against Moreau Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings are facing the Mariners at the right time seeing as the Mariners are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
