Basketball Recap: Saraland Takes a Loss

Saraland was the 49-46 winner over Murphy when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Saraland Spartans fell 44-37 to the Murphy Panthers on Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, Saraland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aniya Southall posted eight points in addition to seven assists and seven steals. Southall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Sadie Knight was another key player, putting up five points and five boards.

Saraland's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Murphy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season.

Saraland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-28 defeat against McGill-Toolen on the 8th. As for Murphy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-41 win against Gulf Shores on the 7th.
