Football Game Preview: Carver Yellowjackets vs. Rockingham County Cougars + How To Watch

The Carver Yellowjackets will square off against the Rockingham County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Carver is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 74-32 win over McMichael. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their eight-point performance the game before.

It was another big night for Jaden Gause-Hughes, who rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Carver was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McMichael only rushed for 35.

Rockingham County never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bartlett Yancey on Friday. They blew past the Buccaneers 54-15. That looming 54-15 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Rockingham County's win came from a few key players Carver will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Luke Strittmatter, who rushed for 51 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, and also threw for 61 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Rockingham County is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise. Malachi Bryant was another key back, rushing for 63 yards and one score.

Rockingham County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Noah Isley, Jaylen Adams, and Braxton Dillard picked up one apiece. Adams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Carver pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.7 points on average over those games. As for Rockingham County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
