Basketball Recap: Kyra Rainey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mt. Vernon over Southridge

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 28-20 to the Southridge Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Raiders are ranked 101st).

Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kyra Rainey, who posted four points. That's the most points Rainey has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ellison, who had six points.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Southridge, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will take on Carmi-White County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southridge, they will head out to challenge Tecumseh at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
