Baseball Game Preview: Lane Tech Champions vs. Richards Bulldogs

The Lane Tech Champions will head out on the road to square off against the Richards Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lane Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Lane Tech's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Kenwood hitters got past them. The Champions fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 10-9 on Thursday. The Champions' loss signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Dodger Friedrich was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Teo Greco made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Henry Murray, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Richards unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 4-1 to De La Salle. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lane Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 24-10. As for Richards, their loss dropped their record down to 22-7.

Lane Tech came out on top in a nail-biter against Richards in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Champions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
