Basketball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield was the 43-41 winner over Northwest when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Springfield Yellow Jackets were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 45-44 to the Northwest Vikings. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Springfield lost, don't look at Tionna Chambers. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Chambers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavionna Farmer, who went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Northwest, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Springfield beat Northwest by a score of 44-34 on Wednesday.
