Basketball Game Preview: Central Lake Trojans vs. St. Mary Cathedral Snowbirds

Central Lake is 0-10 against St. Mary Cathedral since March of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Central Lake Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the St. Mary Cathedral Snowbirds at 6:00 p.m. Central Lake will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Central Lake will head into Thursday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 45) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Johannesburg-Lewiston, sneaking past 38-36. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Cardinals are ranked 157th).

Meanwhile, St. Mary Cathedral waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Red Devils 60-21. The Snowbirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.

St. Mary Cathedral's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Central Lake, their record now sits at 5-3.

Central Lake was taken down by St. Mary Cathedral 52-24 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Central Lake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
