Basketball Game Preview: Laurel Golden Tornadoes vs. Wayne County War Eagles

Laurel has gone 8-2 against Wayne County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Laurel Golden Tornadoes will be playing at home against the Wayne County War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Laurel is coming into the match hot, having won their last 13 games.

Laurel is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing East Central: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Laurel blew East Central out of the water with a 63-14 final score. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Kayllis Walker, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karly Hunter, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Wayne County's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 54-38 fall against Bay Springs.

Laurel's win was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.3 points. As for Wayne County, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.

Laurel took their victory against Wayne County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 69-45. Will Laurel repeat their success, or does Wayne County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
